That’s a great question. I’ve always been interested about these mysterious “half characters”. It’s strange how integral to the valley most people are, but then you get npcs who seem like they must have pretty deep lore in Pelican town, but absolutely no further info. I’m especially thinking of Gunther, Marlon, and Gill.

My personal headcanon is that he’s the ghost of >!Birdie’s Husband!<. But there’s no official lore beyond what the book in the library tells you.

I’m not sure what the lore would be here, but its not lost at me that he appears on the beach in the rain, and on Ginger Island a mermaid shows up…in the rain!

When you get close to a bachelor or bachelorette you can give them the pendent as a wedding ring 💍 and propose marriage to them.

My friend think’s it’s Pierre in a costume scamming you out of 5k with a little necklace he made out of stuff he found on the beach.

I think part of the point is that, to my knowledge, he’s not really explained. It harkens back to old games where sometimes things just exist as a fun secret or something strange and amusing for the player to find. Besides, no official lore could ever be as fun as theorizing

I guess no one here has heard of the Rime of The Ancient Mariner?

He stops the Wedding Guest to tell his tale of the sea. It’s an homage to the poem.

He killed a mermaid and is trying to get rid of the evidence
