I feel like basically everything in Minecraft has a purpose, to either loot or offer a make shift tutorial on how to use things. But I've never understood what the empty hopper and empty barrel in the Trial Chambers are actually for? I'd say maybe it's to show how hoppers work but why not have a barrel above to show item movement between containers? Is there actually a reason or is it random?

It is actually supposed to be a trash can for you to store all the unwanted drops from the trial chamber you have no space for to carry with you.

Throw junk away without picking it right back up again without even trying

Why would the builders of the chambers even be considering for their potential looters?

  5. Its basically a trash bin for the trial chambers loot, you can throw there all the stuff you dont want. But it’s also Mojangs way of showing new players some of the game mechanics naturally. Not everyone wants to look things up online to learn how everything works. In the same way ruined portals show players there is something more to discover, this also show hopper mechanics and that you can use them for automatic stuff.

This reminds me of pre-command block maps that made you dump any items into a hole between levels.

  7. They’re bins, originally they were empty chests but people kept confusing them for bugged loot chests so they changed it to this.

It is trash can. I would give you proof that Mojang said exactly that in one of the snapshot release note, if I am not lazy.

  9. How did I not think of throwing junks into the thingamajig? It’s so frustrating to burn unwanted items in fear of having to pick it up back again where I dropped them.

At the start it was a chest to put your loot but people didn’t understand why there weren’t any loot in them so they transformed them in trash bin
