Jungle shrine bricks, glowing moss and dungeon color hints to depth shimmer. Iirc purple glowing moss means deep shimmer which can be around lava levels. I’d say check towards left of your moss.
Also, guide name gives exact horizontal location shimmer. If your first died make a new world with same seed it gives guide name. Then dig straight down.

Did you try to make a portal out of glowstone and put some water?

It’s either on the other side of the world, or it’s a old world, made before the 1.4.5 update. Old worlds dont have the Aether

shimmer- right side of your jungle underneath the beach next to the ocean
aether- same side as your jungle, underground to cavern layer, mostly generates underneath the beach/ocean

There’s a calculator on the wiki, it has an equation that you have to substitute values based on your world into. I’ve used it once and it worked so 100% success rate for me
