You can replace inner walls with platforms (no doors needed in such layout). You can also replace all floors except floor below chair and table with platforms. And inner space of 5×7 tiles is enough for a hous to count. This can make your hotel (prison for slaves) easier to navigate for a player and cheaper to build.
i prefer making a compound underground, 5×5 because there are 28 npcs and you dont need santa or golfer or stylist, then i make a room at the top with a lava pit on top and fill the room with chests and crafting. along with two trapdoors to get out of the compound
i made a massive npc hotel and added a penis tip at the top of it to store chests, and also added balls to the left and right just so it looks good, i actually did do that in my expert world

Build a cool looking house on top put your favorite NPCs in there and then put your least favorite in the dungeons below where they are in the old school NPC Hotel sure ain't the most effective it means I don't have to run halfway across the map to go get to the nurse
