it depends on your preferences and the quality of the ice wand/arrows. personally, i like the basilisk claw the best because status conditions annoy me a lot and i can focus entirely on defense and not think about immunity, but if you want direct help with combat, it’s not the best option.

I personally run the Basilisk Paw since I survive longer when I’m debuff-free.

A lot of people love the ice rod.
I hate it because it freezes enemies I inconvenient places. I don’t like the quiver for the same reason, knocks the enemies away with mini damage instead of me killing them with one hammer special attack. So out of these I’d take the basilisk paw just because it won’t annoy me.
Overall I prefer the fairy box for convenience. I did skull cavern runs without having to heal once. Still needed one or two salads for energy.
But all in all trinkets make little difference. The only one that you really need is a parrot egg if you make a specialized build to use it as a pretty good money maker

The ice rod is amazing. It’s so much easier to kill slimes/serpents/ghosts when they can’t move and you can spam the sword on them. Or better yet, you can freeze the enemies and keep moving.

It really depends on how you play and your comfort with each one.
Ice rod is my favorite. Love stopping enemies and focusing on mining or being able to attack without being attacked.
Only annoyance with it is if it freezes an enemy out of bounds (like ghosts, bats, serpents). Or freezing enemies that can hide while in hidden positions, so you can’t damage them (like lava lurk or rock crabs).
But overall it works best for me.

I prefer the frog companion. Very cute little buddy, except when trying to get kill count on specific monsters.

The only trinket I use is the healing fairy. The best offense is a good defense, etc.

When I’m weaker in relation to the things I’m fighting I prefer ice rod, once I’m fairly strong I switch to the fairy so I don’t have to stop and restore health very often

I love the ice rod, but I have a “perfect” one which is fast. Haven’t tried the basilisk paw yet and haven’t seen a quiver but I know a lot of people like it too.
It’s a good laugh when a serpent is flying at you and your ice rod gets it so it is stuck in the air for you to eliminate.

Genuinely I trash all of these.

hated the arrow because rather than it helps, it pushes enemies few tiles away and i cant connect the melees
the ice kinda helps but as a combat junkie, its a niche pick
basilisk is a net good pick
fairy is s tier, heal is king
frog is also niche but slightly better than ice because it ohkos

Quiver. I have both rapid quiver and perfect quiver equipped. Unstoppable. Either or is just as good. Also like ice rod, but quiver is complete kill.

Just depends on what you want. Basilisk Paw is nice when fighting slimes/fire sprites/putrid ghosts because the debuffs can’t annoy you at all. Ice rod is handy if you’re trying to use a dagger or hammer. Fairy is nice to reduce having to spam as much food.
The ones I don’t personally care for are parrot, quiver and frog. The quiver doesn’t really do enough damage in my experience. The parrot doesn’t really give enough coin to be worth over the other advantages. And while the frog can 1hko some random enemies; when it does so ,you don’t get any drops.

It’s either ice or arrow, but in my current load out I think im using ice. Never used the claw b4 so can’t say anything about it. The frog would have been my favorite if they actually drop the loot from what they eat.

Basilisk Paw. Slimes and Shadow Sherman (I know they’re called Shaman, but I call them Sherman) are extremely annoying when they hit you with their debuffs in the early game. When you get to the Volcano on Ginger Island, it’s really useful against the Magma Sparkers, as they inflict the burned debuff on you

I run napalm ring with perfect quiver, swords enchanted with either bug killer or crusader or maybe I bring both. I can tear through the mines with this setup, the quiver can kill anything on screen (as long as I have the right sword in relation to what I’m facing. The sniped enemies act as bombs and the rocks around them are obliterated for free. No other screen clearing combination seems to touch this load out.

I use the ice rod because a) it’s good when enemies are swarming you as it penetrates, freezing any it touches, b) I like to take the kill myself, and c) it lets you ensure the loot drops on the ground and not say the pit of lava.
