    If you are running on the default port, or are listed on reddit or various minecraft server lists (under an alt port) seeing random people trying to connect is pretty normal.

    If you were hosting a website, you would be seeing random google bots coming by, random chatgpt bots visiting on behalf of users etc.

    But instead you are hosting a minecraft server.

    If you are running on the default port, 25565, the internet is small enough that people can scan the entire web, think of it like an auto-dialler trying every IP address in existence, so even if it’s just being hosted from home, you can expect people to knock and see if it’s open.

    If you are on a minecraft game server host, rather then a virtual server, then this is like your address being in the “minecraft district” you can expect more random minecraft bots joining, because your IP address has an association with minecraft hosting, (even if on a non standard port!)

    TLDR;

    This is normal, it’s why whitelists exists, and why firewalls don’t port forward everything by default.

    Could be an IP scanner some griefing groups scan for any and all IPs using the default MC port and will grief any vanilla servers that lack whitelist. A friend was complaining about 5th column constantly trying to log onto his server last week.

  3. It’s just the background noise of the internet. Anything exposed gets checked out by everyone. That’s why you whitelist and put on a password
