My prime suspect is the wizard, with his magic he shows up at 2 am exactly where you are if you pass out, and because him and linus are friends he put linus there everytime after riviving you and taking one thing from you. He might not even have taken it because he wanted or needed an item it could be an requirement for said magic

It would be pretty out of character for Linus to pickpocket from anyone because a central part of his character is that he just straight up hates money. Like he hates a treasure chest so much that it’s one of the two gifts in the game that you physically can’t give to an npc because they flat out refuse to take it

There is ONE character that is a confirmed theif in the valley. Its obviously Lewis, you really think the valley's taxes are enough that he could misappropriate that much to fund his statue? No way in hell, the only reason he only takes some of your gold is bc someone comes along before he completely cleans you out.

Linus won't steal, the hint is the fact that he hates the treasure full of literal gold, even returns it to you saying he doesn't want gold or smh like that
Stuff can also straight up get lost. Loose change and random bits can fall out when going horizontal. If someone finds you passed out but fails to notice the cash, it technically is anyone’s money. Like finding a random twenty on the sidewalk with no obvious owner
