Consider me foolish, I just don't understand why there's a gap. I've tried using the hammer and in every state but what I presume to be the regular state, there's a gap here and it drives me batty. Forgive me for my noobiness.

Hammer the dirt below the wood or break and replace.
Some tiles don’t connect, like dirt and wood, but grass and wood do connect
just gotta wait for grass to spread
Grass needs to grow there. If there’s connecting dirt to a spot with grass then it will eventually spread over
Certain block positions just don’t blend for some reason. If you turn the dirt on the right into grass like on the left, it should blend in.
If you want to keep a dirt-like texture, placing a clay block next to the wood instead of dirt MIGHT work, not sure. And then paint it brown, it’ll almost look like dirt.

Just break the block around it and place them back again. Usually works for me.

if u just dug out that area there will be no grass for a time. wait and the grass grown will connect to the wood
