make a world, join it, press ESC and host world, since your on the normal launcher your friends will need your ip adress to connect , or download lunar clinert and your friends on there and they can join your world stight from there

Currently on Java Edition the only way to play multiplayer is either being on the same network (LAN) or connecting to the same server. Only Bedrock edition has the ability to directly join another player across the internet, though they are testing it for Java for release in a future update which may be what you’ve seen.

Unfortunately Java doesn’t have that feature yet, I think there’s a way to do it by using “Open to LAN” on the pause screen or something like that, but currently the best way to do it is using the essential mod that you can get on Modrinth. However, an integrated friends list and world hosting features should be coming in the next update.

essentials mod, lunar client, or just wait like a month-ish for the next drop when that feature is added to vanilla.
