Classic – New, fresh, first playthroughs, THIS is your go to new players. Expert – Beat the game once? never go lower. This is THE way to play, standard, for everyone besides the new players. This is my personal favorite almost "canon" like difficulty for Terraria. Master – For the sadistic, or maybe just for those who want something spicier than expert since it's gotten bland to the veterans with hundreds or even thousands of hours in the game. This is your go to if that fits in any way shape or form. However just like a spice tolerance builds up for people differently, it's not my go to. I do run this with friends however, and it's not toooo bad honestly.
Journey – A fun experience, something interesting and neat, that has its uses. Not something I'll play much, often, or hardly all honestly. But I'm glad it's an addition to the game. Especially good for builders if they grab an every item world, or character that's maxed out on journey mode.
FTW – Remember when I said master mode was for the sadistic? I lied. Enough said. THIS is ACTUAL sadism.
Legendary mode (FTW master mode) – Alright so I lied, twice . THIS. IS ACTUALLY SADISTIC AND MASOCHISTIC. I will play this eventually, but never again after that. Challenge run only for me.
(Legendary ASO ((All seeds on, see what I did there?)) master mode) aka, GetFixedBoi – Ok, so, I lied yet again, this one is genuinely a CIA torture method, GetFixedBoi is just fucked up. That's it. There's no fun here.
Bonus mention, any of those, plus Calamity, Infernum, Wrath of the Gods, or with Fargo's installed as well.
When i got terraira, i played classic until moonlord and went straight to Master mode. Ever since I never left Master mode.
I tried playing with my lil brother terraira for the first time, and I genuinely couldn't play classic mode after being in Master for years lmao
Journey mode i feel that it is very under appreciated it, it feels like a creative but you still have to get your own stuff before it being unlimited. Not only it is the best for building, but i think doing an "all items" run in Journey must be the most difficult thing in the game.
I 100% my world once (bestiary 100%, no evil biomes and 200 fishing quests) and I thought it was a challenge, i tried journey all items and i gave up faster than getfixedboi calamity infernum
Please do not start playing terraria on classic Expert mode exclusive drops add an entire section of fun to the game that you're going to be missing out on if you do classic
One of my biggest gripes back in mobile 1.2 watching pc 1.3 was that they had expert mode and cool stuff like shield or Cthulhu just wasn't available for me
(Journey for new players) is just a recommendation, mine is play terraria for the first time use calamity: wrath of the gods, forgo’s, and other quality of life, magic storage, and all recipes(my first time playing the game)
Expert is just perfect for me, the difficulty feels balanced yet still a bit challenging, Master mode kinda becomes too tedious with the respawn time, being one shot by every other enemy just ruins a bit of the fun, specially with how spongey can some enemies become
previous video : master mode is the worst it's just a harder version of expert with no changes to bosses now : master mode i my favorite way to play the game
For me I played terraria like this Start new world classic diff on a large crimson world no special seed beat game new world master mode on a large crimson or corruption world error seed beat game make zenith cycle repeats
Sometimes journey mode is the only logical choice when playing with friends, cuz terraria takes a lot of grinding an average playthrough could easily take 60 hours to complete and we barely have 4 hours a week to play and journey mode makes the grind a lot less painful
Master mode is ass in my opinion, just a health/damage boost to evrything and fancy items, nothing more than that Feels like all that struggle and effort just to shit watery
I only play journey because I’m kind of scared to try hard and it’s nice just to relax and currently I’m trying to get most of the OP items in terraria
I never tried journey mode and wanted to collect every item in the game… so instead of all the benefits of journey mode ajd infinite duplication I got about 70% of the items in master mode before giving up on the golden critters (cursed golden seahorse)
Play Journey Mode->change difficulty Now you have the convenience of Journey for things like duping blocks for building or time skipping for the Angler, without the loss of difficulty that makes the game challenging
Journey Mode is probably the best option out of all of these, simply for one reason…
It can be ANY of these.
Journey Mode lets you change the game difficulty on the fly. You can switch it from Normal to Expert to Master and back any time you want. You can also use some of the above options to bypass parts of the game that may annoy you (like waiting a full day to do another fishing quest or for NPCs to respawn). Also, some of the passive functions like increased building and pick-up range are nice quality of life options.
And, of course, if you're worried that Journey Mode's tools make the game too easy, there's a simple solution to that too: Don't use those tools.
Also, on top of that, if you want maximum challenge, Journey Mode can potentially be the most difficult mode in the game. Simply don't use most of the tools, max the difficulty to Master Mode, then turn the spawn rate up to 10x. Have fun!
I never finished the game alone but I finished game 2 times with friends and expert is too hard and classic is too easy for me and journey is the solution cuz u can make harder or easier whenever you want
I used to play on Classic, and I did for way too long given my skill level. I was able to always clear through everything easily, and not too long ago, I decided to switch to mostly playing on Master or Legendary. It feels so much more challenging and entertaining now that it isn't that base game, and it's actually decently difficult for some things now.

Jouney is for 2 things, first for playing with friends, second for startes that want the exclusives for harder difficulties

Day 41 of supporting small creators
Master mode is too overtuned to be fun
journey is a ton of fun if u decide to 100% it
Journey Mode is probably the best option out of all of these, simply for one reason…

Aight so legendary dont exist✌️
I like to play Journey in challenges like "surviving with 10x spawn rate".
