I Ranked EVERY Crop in Stardew Valley

All of the crops in Stardew Valley were not created equal, some are universally used, others are forgotten about entirely. And while that may be true, a lot of crops have uses you may have never thought about. I’m going through every single crop to determine if they’re useful, or truly a lost cause!

  1. What I've done in my playthrough is, especially in later years when you have more money, buy strawberry seeds for the next year as well (especially if you take the game a bit slower like me – I'm currently on year 6 lol) so then you can get a full season's worth of profit

  2. To me, frankly the only true F tier crop is garlic. It is the only crop in the game I can never make up an excuse for me to plant until I'm going for perfection. Kale I can at least say gives me some more EXP, so for fun it's nice to sprinkle some in to have a more "complete" farm feeling. Garlic is genuinely so bad ESPECIALLY for when you unlock it that I can just never find any excuse to plant it.

  3. Only things that stood out to me is:
    1. Catci can also be foraged, and be Iridium quality, so it's better for gifting. I think you can also put them into Seed Makers (which is a whole other layer to the math here, so I can understand you not covering them).
    2. Pineapple being the best (non-Ancient Fruit) regrowable crop makes them good for greenhouses. Not The Greenhouse, but sheds you fill up with Garden Pots.

  4. 22:10 BUT there are other things. Note that this argument is mainly for people who are decent enough at the game, so they have a small army of preseves jars/kegs, the desert unlcoked, and enough money to fund however many crops I can fit under my sprinklers. The main limiting factor here is how preserves jars (or in rare cases kegs) I have here. Cranberries will produce 10 crops per season…that means I can only grow less than 1/3 the amount of cranberries as I can punpkins. Bottom line is, the choke point will almost always be your artisan army, which punpkins are more than 3x efficient at filling.

That being said, if you don't have artisan machines, or are just using dehydrators, cranberries are better. Only reason I will ever grow them (outside of divorce%) is if I have enough space, AND I have some dehydrators available, and I don't already have the greenhouse/ginger island unlcoked.

(Lol thanks anyone who actually read my full rant)

  5. I’m not even done the video, but I have to defend corn.

If you harvest your corn and put it into the seed maker, it will always be better than selling it raw unless you’re super unlucky. Without the Tiller profession, gold quality corn sells for 75g — exactly the same amount as corn seeds. And you usually get *multiple seeds*, so even if you do have Tiller, it’s honestly worth it. Imagine being able to turn all your regular and silver quality crops into gold quality value while also ending up with *more to sell*. And guess what ? The seed maker doesn’t even take that long ! It’s great ! Especially in year 1.
The only limitation is that you need the seed maker from the Dye Bundle, but toggling ā€œGuarantee Year 1 Completeā€ or even getting just a little lucky ( my travelling cart ended up selling multiple red cabbages in year 1 ) can mean corn finally has a use !! I think it’s more exciting than melons or pumpkins, anyhow. But this strategy has made me around 5K each harvest from not that much corn ( beach farm struggles 😭 ).

Anyway, that was my defence of corn. I hope you guys are inspired to try it out (:

  6. I love watching videos like this and then barely taking it into account when I play lol. I will plant 8 of Every Crop and upkeep it throughout the season, as I am a Farmer and it is my job to Farm And Sell Crops. and then I'll do an extra 8/16/whatever of whatever the 'best' crop that season is. (I should note though I'm not big on perfection hunting- I've never reached it, though I've been playing since it was added)

  7. 28:37 ya see, i always plant one on my regular farm, sometimes up to 3, especially if i get lucky and find a seed within spring of year 1 (which happens quite often honestly?). But i start stockpiling from there to be able to plant them in my greenhouse once i get it.

  8. I do like bok choy a lot but only because I play with Walks of Life with a skill prestige system and they’re nice for farming exp for a 4 day, year 1 crop. But otherwise they come way too late. ^^;;

Kale is apparently also good for farming exp, though I just use a crap ton of strawberries for exp and profit year 1. (Like 200+. Watering is miserable lmao)

Parsnips make me think of the miserable parsnip only run for perfection where in the end, he started using the tractor and automate for the 10 mil because it was such a slog lol.

  9. Justice for kale,
With the introduction of the fish smoker I feel like getting money through spring crop to be not as lucrative compared to just smoking catfish. Focusing on exp so I can snowball to get deluxe sprinklers and machines for the more lucrative seasons is much more valuable than the few extra bucks I get planting other crops.

Granted fishing is not everyone cup of tea, but if you like it and hate farming without sprinklers kale is your best friend.

Tldr justice for kale, they do have an important early game niche for the people who care more about early game exp than money.

  10. 10:42 As someone whose preferred mine setup is ā€œmonster musk + napalm ring as soon as possible, I’d like to never use a pickaxe again,ā€ this section was very funny to me šŸ˜‚ I have only ever made garlic oil in order to 100% crafting. I get to skull cavern as fast as I can and then enter and exit mining serpents for a day or two until I get my napalm ring.

  11. 12:06 for the downside of the hops you can actually make big jumino hut fields which could be a little more late game for some players but it lets you make big fields and removes the downside of you having to farm them everyday.

  12. Conveniently left out in the Cranberry vs Pumpkin segment that the Pumpkins only require processing 3 times a season per crop, while Cranberries need to be processed a whopping 10 times a season per crop.
Early on, this is a big deal, because your biggest bottleneck in year 1 is how many processing machines you have. Later on neither are relevant because all of your processing machines will be used on Starfruit and Ancient Fruit anyway.
Don't fall for the Cranberry agenda. Pumpkins are the way.

  13. I think this is a great tier list if your major concern is making money quickly. My list would look different only because I hate replanting crops so all my S tiers are ones you only have to plant once šŸ˜
