In my mod Knots & Rings, I decided to improve saplings with more growth stages like seedlings, sprouts, and tall/giant saplings, similar to how crops grow. I also made 2×2 saplings grow more naturally, with a tall central stem and the outer saplings gradually decaying and retreating over time (every tree type can grow in 2×2 and 3×3 shapes for compatibility with datapacks/mods that change tree generation, and because why not?). All stages have texture variations, and now random offsets like other foliage/flowers.

Saplings can also now be pruned with shears to keep them at any stage (except seedlings, which need to at least grow into sprouts to be pruned), and bonemeal recovers their growing ability. Sprouts also have a chance to decay and break when stomped, and seedlings will uproot when stomped. Mangrove propagules now have a proper sapling, too (and updated hanging propagule models, visible in slide 3).

These features are still in alpha since I'm still working on fixes to my mod's connected tree rings feature (example in last slide), but I hope to release a beta version soon and plan on slowly bringing these features to tree types from other mods.

This looks very natural. A lot of times with mods that change the size/thickness of trees it looks weird, but pulled off the impossible. Well done!

  2. I would love for them to update farming and growing things. To be honest I really enjoy that part of Minecraft.
