Am I going mad or should all of these blocks be getting some attention?
I understand it is winter but I am trying to prepare for the spring season.
This is my first time playing the game so I am still learning the functions.
I have been hoeing the ground but the sprinklers aren’t getting that area wet and then they’re disappearing ?
Am I making a mistake?
Someone help me pls

Tilled, but unplanted spaces will not stay tilled indefinitely.
In order to keep the ground tilled you have to have something planted.
Those two lighter squares on the bottom right are what they look like when they’re not watered, so the watering part is working fine. Tiles just get untilled over time unless there’s crops planted in them. If you do Linus’s trash cleanup mission on the special order board, you’ll get a recipe for fiber seeds, which can grow in any season. If you want to keep the whole area tilled, those are your best bet because you can plant them and just leave them until the first day of spring, then harvest them and immediately turn around and throw spring crops in there. Failing that, you can plant winter seeds or powdermelon seeds, though those would have to be harvested by the 28th because they’d die to the season change.
On top of what others said about unplanted tilled spaces not staying that way: at the change of the seasons this effect is accelerated and hardly any spaces will stay tilled for 1 Spring.
Don’t waste the energy. First day of spring, most will fill in and you’ll have to hoe them up again, plus clear out sticks, rocks, and weeds.
Later, you’ll get a recipe for Fiber Seeds and if I remember correctly, you can plant the fiber seeds in winter and then reap them first day of spring and it’ll keep you spots hoe’d with no rocks or logs spawning on them.
There’s only three dry tilled squares in this pic.
Edit: Also, the sprinklers only water the ground first thing in the morning, so if you have to re-till a square after, you’ll also have to manually water it that day.
To add to that, the first day of a new season will flood the farm with debris and un-till a lot of your soil, so getting the sprinklers placed and then not worrying about it until spring is the best bet.
You’re wasting your time doing this is winter sadly, the spots will only stay tilled reliably after you’ve planted a seed there, and the sprinkler will then always water it. Winter is a good time to upgrade your tools, I see you have the copper hoe, meaning you can hoe 3 spots at a time by holding down the button so you should be able to get this sorted quickly on the morning of Spring 1, upgrade your watering can too for the same reason. Once you’ve prepped head over to Pierre’s!
You guys are all amazing. Thank you c
The ground won’t stay tilled, and you’ll have a lot of clean up to do come spring 1. Not really worth tilling anything until then.
For your first winter, I recommend Winter Seeds. If they’re still growing during the Spring transition, they’ll die but keep the soil tilled on the first day. I consider the lost profit worth the saved labor.
You can get more by either tossing Winter Roots into a Seed Maker or gathering forageables to craft. Since you get 10 seeds for every 4 items consumed, you can quickly build up a large stockpile of seeds.
Plant fiber seeds if you don’t have powder melons but don’t harvest them until Day 28
Plant all the wild seeds you have, turn forage into winter seeds, plant any winter melon seeds you find. You will get some extra xp in the winter and then do not harvest your last crop/over plant if you can. A lot faster to surge dead plants and pick the finished one spring 1 then hoe and water. You can pretty much do this every season except going into winter iirc.

Savage
Because wild seeds produce more of themselves, I use them, especially fall and winter seeds, to keep the tilled soil during season changes. As long as they’re still in the growth phase, they’ll die to be easily cleared with a scythe and the tilled soil will stay. However, it won’t work if they’re harvestable on the 28th and you leave them for the 1st… They have to still be growing on the 28th.
Also won’t keep any fertilizer,,, but it’s a huge time saver on re-tilling soil.
The winter seeds are especially pretty on the white snow.
You can easily amass copious quantities of wild seeds by chaining harvested crops into more wild seeds throughout winter. Second to last or last day of winter; plant all the excess winter wild seeds and you’ll be good.

If you don’t have anything planted they’ll keep drying up…
No plant = chance to un-till each night. They ARE all getting watered though, so there’s that
