Wouldn't you have to use like NPCs to kill the demons?
You should check the dungeon first actually, see how far you can get and check any books you see, there's a slim chance you can get the waterbolt early
As someone who has done this challenge…it sucks
you can still get the waterbolt from the dungeon if youre lucky with the books. skeletron head appears at a certain depth so if youre lucky, you can get a book before youre too low and get insta killed

how do you get the multiple fishing hooks thing?
Its kind of sad that Melee and Ranger have lil subclasses of weapons, while Mages dont. Their weapons are categorized into different sub classes but outside of Meteor armor causing a magic gun or two to cost no ammo, there is really no difference between using a tome or using a wand.

You can get both spell books thanks to blood moons where the fraud sells the seeds for the alternate evil
Basically crystal shards is your main damage while you refresh ichor and cursed flame debuffs
How are you going to farm demons without a weapon?
(You can also get the water bolt before beatting skeletron just by getting lucky with the shelf spawn meaning you can so this without needing sand as well)
What is this propaganda?! First step is clearly checking all reachable books in the dungeon to gamble on an earlier water bolt
