I don't know about anyone else, but I grew up using Carpenter's Blocks, and when I started playing Minecraft again, I realized it never updated past 1.7.10. So I went and found Framed Blocks instead, and while I still think it's a great mod, I find the sheer number of different variants a little overwhelming sometimes. I wanted to see if anyone else feels this way or if it's just me. I'm curious to hear what other people think. Also, I want to clarify that this isn't hate toward the mod or its developers. I still think it's a great mod, I just wanted to hear other people's opinions.

  1. Yeah I’m not a huge fan of the concept, I even find Create copycats a bit too much.

Stuff like vertical slabs, sideways stairs are fine as they’re covering an obvious gap.

But I think it’s just because personally I’m already a bad and slow builder, and if I have access to that kind of detail I’ll just never finish anything.

  2. So I recently got into using them to recreate some pokemon games in cobblemon after the latest cobblemon update with the new spawn blocks.

They looked like a good idea, but ultimately I couldnt actually end up constructing the buildings that I really wanted to construct.

I would’ve need framed blocks that can support up to 3 material types, or better yet, have their frame system divide a single block into eight smaller blocks to do proper fully customisable slope and slab work.

  3. It’s a good mod and I enjoy variety in my building materials. I just need to remember to use it more often when I really care.
I loved working with the pixel variants and building very custom shapes with multiple colors, but it got extremely tedious. Also my computer at the time couldn’t handle a wall of custom brick so I had to use it sparingly.
I tend to use the framed block stairs the most. It seems quite a few modded blocks don’t add stairs or slabs so I need them most often. I didn’t realize they had this many shape varieties.

  4. A lot of the blocks are for (literal) edge cases, and sometimes I still find myself looking for a block that isn’t included in it.

I think the 1.18 ish era of available options was ‘good enough’, where it has enough options to create plenty of new architectural shapes, but does not try to add EVERY possible variant that will only devolve into bloat. At some point, you have to work within the limitations of what you have available. (Which, sure, purists will say the same of using framed blocks at all, versus sticking with the available vanilla minecraft options.)

(As an aside, it’s also why I somewhat dislike block palette options like chipped/chiseled/xtones. I spend so much time trying to pick a texture/color palette that I just get annoyed, throw everything out and fall back on something basic like deepslate or chalk/limestone.)

I’ve personally used a lot of slopes as well as the non-connecting “wall/fence” variants (pillars/post), corner blocks, floor/wall panels, and obviously framed variants of vanilla shapes (wall/fence/stair etc). I’m not sure I’ve ever used the double-block options, or if I have it’s been a handful of times across a dozen different builds.

Idk why no one has just ported Carpenter’s Blocks, IMO no one has done it as well as that since.

I’m kinda a framed blocks hater, I avoid using them since i think they clash to much with the normal vanilla art style

  7. i respect the effort but yeah its a bit much for anything id ever use it for. Provided it allows for convenient customization for whats enabled and what isnt (like Copycats+) then thats fine though, isnt it?
