Over the years, I have received messages expressing concern about the version MCE2 was being developed on. One common complaint was, *”1.16 is old and unsupported by many mod developers! How will you maintain a project of this scope on a dead version?”* And as much as I would prefer to brush off that criticism, it has merit. MCE2 began development when 1.16 was new, and 1.16 is now old. We have poured our hearts into this project, and as a labor of love, it took its sweet time.
Thus, this year, I **secretly** began porting **MCE2** to **1.20.1**, a version I believe will be the best of both worlds. It has long-term mod support, better mod code, and improved performance. It also has almost all of the mods that made MCE1 special along with some new ones that feel right at home. I was spending an unholy amount of time fixing mods because they were abandoned on 1.16.5.
Their 1.20 equivalents are much more stable! This choice will increase the **longevity** and **health** of the project **tenfold**. It is no easy feat, and I’ve already run into my fair share of hurdles, but I am convinced this is the best decision for the future of MC Eternal. Large amounts of progress are already being made. Some features are more important than others and will take priority for porting.
I am prioritizing the core pack experience and will be releasing a dev version for testing as soon as it’s viable to do so. This is big news, and I expect there to be a range of different questions, concerns, and excitement. I’m happy to answer most questions you may have. Finally, you are likely thinking,*”I’ve waited this long… waiting for you to port the entire project to a completely different version of Minecraft means I’ll be waiting eons!”*
That would be a fair initial reaction, but I would like to highlight our new development strategy we’re employing to create and publish content. You can see it in our new project, which is still in beta: “Cobblemon Eternal.” We decided upon a quicker development cycle, prioritizing user feedback and faster content updates rather than waiting years for the project to be considered complete.
I will be employing a similar strategy for the development of MC Eternal 2. What this means is we will be continuing to port and create custom features and content for 1.20.1 as content updates for the project, this will benefit the pack greatly as it will receive a steady stream of new content.
Everything will not be available at launch because then you will be waiting eons.
This will allow us to receive user feedback and fix issues as they arise to create the best playable experience for the player. Thank you all for waiting so long! Some more patiently than others .
I appreciate the excitement and hype—it shows how much you care for MCE—but it’s also important to keep expectations in line with reality. We are a small team, and I do most of the pack dev work myself. I’m excited about the future of MCE; we have lots to come! Stay tuned!
For now though thank you for reading and enjoy the trailer ;’D !!

No lie just nostalgia bought minecraft a couple weeks ago in anticipation for this, havent played for a couple years. Tried out a couple modpacks I used to play that got big updates like RAD 2 but just couldnt get into it. I feel lucky af to get a trailer so soon, I been checking your profile periodically looking at the slime king update for the past 2 yrs. This looks sick cant wait to play, I remember MC eternal was my favorite mod pack way back in high school.

MC Eternal was my modpack for over a year solid until my world corrupted. Was before I knew about backups. It’s still one of my favorite modpacks. Even if I haven’t played it since then, so I’m stoked as hell for 2.

Happy to hear the update!! I was worried that the pressure from the community was getting to the team, and am happy to see that was not the case.
