  1. I can get the defense for all of these characters, but Demetrius!? No, I'll never forgive him for treating sebastian like shit.

Also fuck Pierre for taking credits for my crops

  2. Say what you will about Pierre, but his jacking up prices of your produce to astronomic levels and his constant bragging about how he is overcharging his small, rural community is gross.

  3. I can understand Lewis, Shane and Clint. Demetrius never once mentions Sebastian, like Never, he acts like he can marry a woman that already has a kid, have a daughter with Robin and ghost his step-son forever. To be fair, I highly doubt that Sebastian would ever even want to be in the same room as Demetrius.
Pierre? It just frustrates me that instead of joining the festivities, he acts like Scrooge and decides to try and earn money even on those specific days, when he could spend them with his family.
Oh and to finish this, why is everyone so against Clint? I went through all the events, several videos on why he’s misunderstood or hated, but really? Are we gonna really hate the only guy that probably was alone all his life, friendless, and never introduced to how you should court someone? He’s more of a realistic person than other bachelors, he clings to his crush for Emily because perhaps that’s the only thing that brings a little bit of happiness (among a lot of pain for being friend-zoned) in his dull, lonely and absolutely understandable life.
I think the Stardew community should lower their haste against Clint, because as Mug66 said, we’ve all been where he is, and everyone grows up and matures at their own pace, even at the cost of big, blind mistakes.
    That’s my opinion, at least.
(Thanks to whoever read until here and have a wonderful SDV gameplay)

  4. The person I can’t get behind is Shane. Yeah, he lost his BFF and life is hard, but the way he neglects Jas and constantly gets drunk rather than taking responsibility for his life is wrong on so many levels. That man has no business raising a child, and is definitely not marriage material.

  5. Ngl when I first met Demetrius (as a person who also grew up with Scientists) first thing I thought was this man has a crippling case of Science Brain. I'll give a lot of leniency to most of the characters cause humans are pretty flawed but the one guy I struggle with is Pierre. Bro kept taking credit for my crops and upcharging, AFTER I got rid of Joja. In my currently playthrough I'm basically boycotting him, except for seeds. He gets no business from my crops they are all getting shipped!

  6. Demetrius is just weird.

Pierre is mostly just trying to stay afloat.

Lewis is mostly just trying to keep the town going.

Shane is dealing with immense depression, with a massive responsibility on his shoulders.

Clint is just socially awkward with high anxiety.

They're real people. It's the best thing about Stardew imo.

  7. 1:31 the festival thing is very much a human thing, my dad is an engineer and I’m in school to become one, we be questioning why we’re at any social gathering the entire time we are there.

  8. * If Demetrius wasn't so obsessed with comparing Maru to everything and so cold, at the minimum, if not outright cruel to Sebastian, I could be more forgiving. Along that vein, I will step out even further and say that Robin is a bad mother for not putting her foot down with that kind of emotional abuse towards her son. It's not like they got married when he was an adult; he grew up in that household, basically snub'd or worse.
    * Mayor Lewis is DISGUSTING. He stole from the town, leaving them to struggle. He is bad enough chasing after such a young woman as Marnie, but he keeps making her hide it. I hate that about him. I really wish there was a way to oust him entirely!
    * Pierre is a jerk but I just don't sell to him.
    * Shane needs professional help. And he needs Jas taken away from him until he gets it.
    * I've never gotten enough hearts with Clint to get the hate, so I can't say much there. From what I can tell, he is terribly socially awkward and I can empathize a lot with that.

  9. Every compelling story needs a modicum of "good versus evil" or at least "pleasant versus irritating."
I think all of the characters are redeemable, depending on how you want your story to be written. 😊

Also, how are none of the women on this list!?

  10. No, it's just that this game is played by obnoxious Zoomers who think they know everything about how people function despite being the most awkward, asocial generation in history.

  11. Some people in the comment start talking about how Demetrius is worse than everyone mentioned in this video and it drives me insane. Like I feel like Demetrius is literally the most normal one here! People get to have flaws and be a perfectly good human being, btw!

The concept of him being cruel to Sebastian is literally so exaggerated. Like what? Him making Sebastian getting rid of a snowman while keeping Maru's? Him not having quotes for Sebastian? If we actually comparing quote counts, do you know that Robin have like 5 quotes for Sebastian and only 1 for Maru?

And like… connection is a two way street. You can't expect Demetrius to be the only one putting work in connecting with Sebastian, while Sebastian clearly doesn't put any efforts in connecting with his new family either. Anytime he talks about Maru or Demetrius, it's negative, like:

“Why does everyone like Maru so much? Sure, she's smart and friendly, but don't they realize it's all just an attention-grabbing scam? Sorry…”

“Who does Demetrius think he is, telling me what to do? He's not even my real father.”

And Maru's quote: “Sebastian hardly ever talks to me. I wonder if he even likes me at all? It's sad, I want to have a brother but he doesn't act like one.”

So yeah, guess who Demetrius would want to spend time more. The daughter that have the same interest with him, or the son that doesn't want anything to do with him and doesn't even consider him/his half sister as family?

And some people even wanna go the route of "they make Sebastian live in the basement" its not like that's Demetrius idea? Robin literally built the house! You think she wouldn't consider her son's opinion before putting him there? Like are people gonna consider Robin as part of the family dynamic as well, and therefore also blaming her for contributing to Demetrius and Sebastian's disconnection by not doing more? Why is it all on Demetrius's shoulders? Who have those guide books on his shelf so he clear is trying.

I just think that people regard his relationship with Sebastian in such a narrow way, without consider everything else around it. Like Sebastian is reasonable to feel disconnected from his second family, and Demetrius/Maru is allow to feel disconnected to Sebastian. It's not anyone fault! And if it is someone's fault, it wouldn't be Demetrius's fault alone.

But I don't wanna end this by arguing that Demetrius is some PERFECT MORALLY GOOD human being, he clearly has flaws. He's weirdly protective over Maru and coddling her, but after Maru's 10 heart cutscenes, he was made aware of his own mistake and apologised however.

Like compare him to 'I misuse the town's fund and stringing a woman along because I'm too egotistical' Lewis, 'I jacked the price of my goldstar crops to x10 because I see my friends and neighbours as money bags' Pierre, and 'desperately needing therapy and a dialogue rewrite' Clint, Demetrius is perfectly fine to me.
