If there were no cosmetic mods, it could be playable. But I want to play with Vanilla textures. I can look at the modpack, choose the content and the QoL mods that I like and use them. But those resprite mods are unbearable.
I think the animals can talk to you because you have/ are supposed to have the forest magic that get from the wizard at the start of the game. The forest magic allows you to understand the junimos writing and also speak to animals. There is a bear and a raccoon in the base game you can understand fully so that isn't a stretch to say the player speaks animalese.
