It's been a while since I tried a more optimized run, but I wanted to see how much I could accomplish by Summer Year 1 using the free Fish Smoker on the Riverland Farm to jump-start profits and open up the bus in time for the Desert Festival.
Another poster (can't find it, sorry!) suggested planting 400+ parsnips to hit Farming 6 just from rain instead of crafting any standard sprinklers, and that was a major time save. Now on Summer 3, I have 500 Starfruit, 60 Melons, & 32 Corn (plus some random seeds + red cabbage from the Skull Caverns) in the ground and Iridium Pickaxe will be ready to pick up tomorrow to get back to cavern diving.
Some tips:
- I always try to wait to sell fish until Fishing 10, but usually I get too tempted to buy coffee, get animals started, etc. to wait it out. This time I splurged on the first backpack early, but was more disciplined other than that. It pays off to wait, especially if you're focusing hard on fishing in the first week or so and can hit Fishing 10 before turning to mining.
- Having the Bait Maker ASAP to start spamming Catfish and Largemouth Bass bait totally changes the early fishing game. Current Catfish count is 102!
- I forgot to start working on trees/tappers so I'll have way more starfruit than I can process at first. Doing it again I'd try to find half a day to get a tree farm going.
Not sure this is of any interest but if it is I'll update at the end of Year 1.

Catfish bait maker goes so crazy year one. I usually did other things on non rainy days but using it on large mouth bass is definitely something I’ll do in a future save.
Yeah bait maker kinda snowballs once you commit to it
I always ignored bass for bait, might have to try this
