I wish you could see the enchantments of each book when you look at them in the bookshelf. Instead of having to take out every single one of them, press E and hover the cursor over each one in your inventory, until you find the one you’re looking for.

The chiseled bookshelf could actually be really useful, but instead I end up just putting my books in a chest, because ironically that’s the easier way to keep track of your enchanted books.

  1. I mean if you’re using them for functionality, chests are always better since they have more storage space

If you want to use it for book storage, there is no point even if you have tooltips for the books.  It is meant for decoration, not functionality.  But it does function as an enchanted book separator for non stackable sorters

Just use 1 kind of enchantment per shelf. Have a shelf for mending, have a shelf for unbreaking, etc. if you have random books, maybe put them in a shulker box instead

    “Otherwise what’s the point?”

In the past like 3ish years they have ONLY cared about new things. In the case of the chiseled bookshelf, that is an inventory without a ui and can only accept a specific item type. Basically they do not care about minecraft as a game and only care about it as a money machine full of quirky new things every year to somehow grab the attention of the last remaining consumers who haven’t bought the game yet.
